The Project Manager’s role on the consulting team is to manage projects through implementation, working closely with client teams and ensuring that they participate in and adhere to best practices.  The Project Manager’s background will include materials systems engineering to enable them to appropriately guide the client and ensure that the as-executed project adheres to the as-designed intention.


The selected Project Manager will manage projects, interact with the Lead Consultant, ensure that the design is adhered to, oversee suppliers, manage schedules, and inform or manage project budgets.  He/she will tightly interact with the client as a member of the client’s team, communicating with various organizational levels within the client team, and communicate and direct suppliers as needed.  He/she will create or oversee testing plans, schedules and other tools needed to manage projects, and adhere to best-in-practice project management methodology.


This role will have the opportunity to work on and influence a large number of exciting and high-profile projects, and the selected Project Manager should excel and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.  In addition, he/she will work closely with the internal team and with clients, must embrace a culture of integrity, professionalism and work ethic to assure high value delivery to clients that reinforces the brand and values of Commonwealth Supply Chain Advisors.


This position is expected to perform to annual objectives set by and with the Vice President of Consulting.



  • Manage projects from supplier selection through detailed engineering, installation, testing and go-live
  • Adhere to best project management practices as developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI), known as PMBOK
  • Provide auditable paper trails, where desired
  • Interact or operate client financial approval systems, if needed
  • Inform clients of risk mitigation techniques where appropriate
  • Inform the evaluation of various suppliers at varying technical levels
  • Communicate cost, resources or schedule challenges to clients in ways that enables clients to make well-informed and quick decisions to minimize cost and schedule risk
  • Work closely with Senior Consultant(s) for each individual project to ensure that as-completed projects meet the design intent
  • Prepare project overviews and drawings/illustrations which communicate status, challenges and need sufficiently to non-technical client staff
  • Utilize AutoCAD to make comments, perform minor modifications, and to communicate to support client goals
  • Deliver work on-time and on-budget
  • Follow Commonwealth’s project delivery methodology and formats
  • Contribute continuous improvements and recommendations to the Commonwealth methodology and library of service capabilities


Internal Business Partnerships

  • Actively engage with other Commonwealth staff, contributing to and extracting from discussions about best practices, experiences and problem-solving
  • Play an active contributing role within engagement teams, working closely with executives, engineers, analysts, IT and finance resources between client, Commonwealth teams and system providers
  • Connect Commonwealth to companies which may become sources of Commonwealth engagements
  • Perform any other tasks as deemed necessary





  • 5+ years’ experience in project management of projects from $1m to $60m
  • Experience designing and/or analyzing distribution centers with varying amounts of automation
  • Management of more than two highly automated distribution center projects, starting after vendor selection and ending with transition into post go-live support
  • Ability to understand qualitative and quantitative data and its design implications, as communicated by the consulting team
  • Strong written and verbal communications abilities, including the ability to present Commonwealth solutions to client project teams and Commonwealth consultants
  • Knowledge of and practice of the “Project Management Body of Knowledge” (PMBOK) as developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Ability to connect and build rapport and relationships with internal and external clients at all levels
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical field, Business, Supply Chain Management or Operations Management
  • Proficient in use of scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficient competency in Microsoft Office programs and other appropriate tools



  • Project management of software implementation including WMSs
  • Working knowledge of WMS / WES / WCS technologies
  • Experience with labor management, engineered labor standards


Geographic Location

  • Reasonably close to a regularly serviced commercial airport


Travel Requirements

  • A range of 25% – 85% travel will be required.  Travel will require extensive site time at critical phases of projects, such as system testing



  • A full-time salary commensurate with experience, or a contracted role
